One of the most important differences between skilled nursing and nursing home care is that skilled nursing facilities are often covered by Medicare for a short period of time. They are ideal for patients who had a recent hospital stay or are recovering from an illness or injury that requires short term rehabilitation. Many times, this includes more intensive nursing care or help with different types of rehab as well as other basic health care services.
Medicare and/or personal insurance covers skilled care services that are needed with prior authorization. Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy includes the services of trained professionals that are needed for rehabilitation and recovery during skilled stays.
Golden Oaks is proud of their percent of patients who are able to return home following their skilled nursing stay.
